What to expect from reflexology
Reflexology with therapist Donna, Divine Beauty, Luton
I will ask you to be seated in a chair or couch and ask you to remove your shoes and socks. I will complete a questionnaire with you which will need you to detail medical history current and historical. If you have medications please bring them along.
I will clean and then examine the feet before commencing with treatment. The particular type of massage involved requires the application of a firm pressure using the thumb and in some instances, the fingers may also be used. A firm pressure by me will prevent a ‘tickle’ sensation. All areas on both feet will be massaged.
Areas corresponding to parts of the body which are out of balance may feel uncomfortable or tender when massaged. The sensitivity of the feet varies from person to person and I will understand the correct pressure to apply and how to interpret the tendernesses felt. You may feel sensations such as tingling and warmth amongst other sensations. The massage should not be uncomfortable to even the most sensitive of feet.
Consultation will take approximately 15 mins dependant on your medical history.
The full treatment session will last approximately an hour during which you will be asked to keep your eyes closed to aid calmness and relaxation. The client may find themselves drifting off to sleep which is perfect!
After the session the client will be brought up-to a sitting position and be offered a class of water. We will then discuss how you felt during the session. Aftercare advice will be given and the number of treatment sessions required will vary depending on the condition being treated.
Further treatments will be 45min sessions which will include update of any current medical conditions, massage and aftercare advice.
It is not necessary for a GP referral to try reflexology treatment but reflexology can not give a medical diagnosis and a client would not be discouraged from visiting their GP.
